Cuts May Add Layer of Dust to Library Shelves

That's my position. That's going away.
How can a library in 2008 not have a dedicated webmaster?

This is absolutely fucking ridiculous! Yeah, how can they expect to function nowadays without a webmaster?!? And how can they cut the hours of operation so drastically?? *disgusted*

Yeah, let's cut the education and library dollars. Heaven forbid our kids grow up able to read and think. Sheesh.

Thanks. And I dunno if they're going to miss me or not. I get vibes that they're trying to make me so miserable that I quit.

Course, I have feelers out for other things available in the area, but with the state of libraries in FL at the moment, there's not much.

Welcome to budget politics on the penis of the bible belt. They don't care if services get cut as long as their taxes don't go up.

How can libraries stay open when people don't want to pay for them? How can libraries pay a webmaster without money? There are two sides to this - trust me, I know. I'm a librarian, and a home owner. My problem is, my taxes went up, and I still get paid crap, and may be laid off because of budget cuts. And yeah, my patrons complain about the cuts we've already had to make.

That's terrible you had to find out from the newspaper. Libraryland is a scarey place to be right now. The system I work for is going to be short around 10 million by 2010, and they won't say how they are going to cover that, but we're all wondering which branches are going to be closed. A lot of systems are changing to having only part time employees, with no benefits, to save money, among other strategies. I've been looking for something else, but it breaks my heart. I love the kids I work with.

Do they know you know about this?

They had told me about it about 3 weeks ago, so I already knew. But it sucks that there hasn't been public outcry about it. Almost makes me feel like what I've done for the last 7 years (with a year hiatus when I was gone from CPLS and then while I was doing something else here) pointless and worthless.

And makes me so happy to come to work everyday.

Sigh. Glad I have a Plan B. ;)
