It's been in my head all day.
You can go to the East
To find your
Your inner hemisphere.
You say we're under the same sky babe,
You're bound to realize,
Honey, it's not that clear.
I'm not your promise land.
I'm not your promise one.
I'm not your Land of Canaan, sweetheart,
Waiting for you under the sun.
I'm lonely tonight,
I'm missing you now.
I'm wanting your love and you're giving it out.
I'm lonely tonight,
I'm lonely tonight,
I'm lonely tonight.
Well the meanings changed
For what it's worth -
It's just a senseless game.
I should think of love,
But it's fear every time I hear
Your heart strain.
It's not the fallen man,
It's not the call of time,
It's just the London skyline
Telling me you're not mine.
- Indigo Girls, "Land of Canaan"
So I'm doing the CD ordering for work today (Which is what I do when I'm not inclined to code) and this of course means that I'm reading all the Rolling Stones, Spins and Under The Radars (just to name 3) that have built up b/c I haven't had time to read them. So far, I have a spiffy list of discs in the alt/inde category, have read more political phlegm than I needed today, learned about the death of Brad Will, and found this spiffy site.
Go. Increase your vocabulary while you donate grains of rice. Think it doesn't add up? You're wrong.
How do you stay organized?

Woo hoo! DL has a QOD.
Now, as I mentioned to Bouche, I know that librarians are supposed to be organizational mavens or something. But I'm the poster child for professionally organized and not so much so outside of work.
So my answer is, choose something that you want to organize and put it in a way that works for you. And let the rest go to shite.
It's all about the balance.
Atlanta Fans Smile Politely Through Entire NHL All-Star Game
ATLANTA—Describing the experience as "nice" and "interesting," nearly
19,000 Atlanta residents filled Atlanta's Philips Arena for the
National Hockey League's annual All-Star Game, being careful to smile
politely throughout the entire hour-long contest. "I certainly had a
pleasant time," 54-year-old Darren Holbrook said on his way to the
parking lot, though he added that he most likely would not attend
another hockey game in the near future. "Those young men on the ice
seemed to really be enjoying themselves, so it would have been rude for
us not to give them our undivided attention." Most fans in attendance
echoed Holbrook's sentiments, but added that had the game gone on much
longer, they would have politely excused themselves and gone home.
It just came through my iPod. I used to love this song so much. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I never was a Jersey Girl, but I did spend many many nights of debauchery down the shore. And have to say, had much fun with Jersey Girls and Boys... ;)
I got no time for the corner boys,
Down in the street making all that noise.
Or the girls out on the avenue.
Cause tonight I wanna be with you.
Tonight I'm gonna take that ride
Across the river to the Jersey side.
Take my baby to the carnival
And I'll take her on all the rides
Cause down the shore everything's all right -
You and your baby on a Saturday night.
You know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey Girl.
- Bruce Springsteen, "Jersey Girl"
People are stupid. They see something that looks easy and don't consider the long-term consequences. They go for what looks good in the short term and forget that there's always ALWAYS consequences to their actions.
I could be talking about anything at this point, but I'm talking about how they've fucked themselves (and me) with bullshit tax cuts yesterday. The concept of tax cuts always appeals. The ability to move your exemption around with you also seems good.
But think about it. When you cut taxes, those services you rely on: fire rescue, police, schools, roads, government infrastructure, parks, LIBRARIES, are on the chopping block. So when they passed this yesterday, and I say they because I certainly didn't vote for it, they essentially said "We don't care about any of that. We don't care about the greater world around us."
It would have helped had I seen more advocacy against it from FLA, teacher's unions, schools, fire fighters, police, etc. I know there were editorials in papers, but I saw nothing on TV, no fliers, no billboards, no signs, etc. It's sad and scary.
And, basically, libraries are fucked.
This is another one of those songs that I definitely change the pronoun. It reminds me so much of someone that it often makes me stop what I'm doing and just listen. And sometimes sigh.
She's a brilliant lyricist and a great singer. The whole Extraordinary Machine album is brilliant (the other 2 have fabu songs on them (and Pawn has more, but there are singularly better songs on Tidal) but all of EM is outstanding).
Those boom times
Went bust.
My feet of clay,
They dried to dust.
The red isn't the red we painted it's
Just
Rust.
And that signature thing
That used to bring my following,
I have trouble now
Even remembering.
So why did I kiss her so hard
Late last Friday night?
And keep on letting her change all my plans?
I'm either so sick in the head that I need to be bled dry to quit,
Or I just really used to love her.
I sure hope that's it.
I knew that
To keep in touch
Would do me deep in dutch
Cause it isn't the rush of remembering
It's
Just
Mush.
And that signature thing
Is only growing harrowing.
I should have no trouble now
To keep from following.
So why did I kiss her so hard
Late last Friday night?
And keep on letting her change all my plans?
I'm either so sick in the head I need to be bled dry to quit,
Or i just really used to love her.
I sure hope that's it.
- Fiona Apple, "Tymps (The Sick In the Head Song)"
It's in the movie I'm watching at the moment. That, and I have fond memories of some of the 80s.
Precious kisses,
Words that burn me.
Lovers never ask you why.
In my heart the fires burning,
Choose my color
Find a star
Precious people always tell me
Thats a step -
A step too far.
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Words are few
I have spoken.
I could waste a thousand years.
Wrapped in sorrow words are token,
Come inside and catch my tears.
You've been talking but believe me
If it's true
You do not know -
This boy loves without a reason
I'm prepared to let you go.
If its love you want from me
Then take it away
Everything is not what you see
It's over today.
- Culture Club, "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?"
This one's for Mike who said he missed my LOtDs. Little did he know what I was going to come back with.
Ding Dong!
The Witch is dead.
Which old Witch?
The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong!
The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead.
She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below.
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh,
Sing it high,
Sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!
As Mayor of the Munchkin City, In the County of the Land of Oz, I welcome you most regally.
But we've got to verify it legally, to see -
To see?
If she -
If she?
Is morally,
ethically -
Spiritually
Physically
Positively
Absolutely
Undeniably and reliably Dead
As Coroner,
I must aver,
I thoroughly examined her.
And she's not only merely dead,
She's really most sincerely dead.
Then this is a day of Independence For all the Munchkins and their descendants
If any.
Yes, let the joyous news be spread The wicked Old Witch at last is dead!
- Wizard of Oz, "Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead"
If you could ask any question in the world and get a true answer, who and what would you ask?

Why did Vox change their design despite what seems to be negative feedback? I can't imagine that the beta testers were any more pleased then the general vox population.
